The Pool and the Stars: a Private Event at Bagno Vignoni

29 june 2016

A splendid sultry summer evening, stars twinkling on the bubbling waters of an ancient hot spring pool, candles everywhere and the scent of aromatic herbs in the air: this is the scene of a private dinner that I organized for a couple who wanted to celebrate a special anniversary in Tuscany.

The location chosen to host their 90 guests is the small town in the heart of the Val d’Orcia that has been famous for its hot springs since the Middle Ages, Bagno Vignoni, destination for pilgrims along the Via Francigena in addition to illustrious historical characters: Saint Catherine of Siena, Lorenzo the Great, Pope Pious II.
Bagno Vignoni offers a timeless setting, especially the hot spring pool bubbling with thermal water that provides a unique backdrop for dinners and events.

To enhance the setting even more, an imperial table set along the entire length of the portico was chosen. The clients requested natural organic decorations and 0-mile flowers only, so a long white cotton tablecloth with a hemp runner and napkins were chosen. The tablemats were wicker and the numerous candles were organic and placed in candleholders made from recycled glass and decorated with natural raffia.

On the table there were small pots of organic herbs from a local nursery - basil, thyme, mint, sage and rosemary, typical essences of the Val d’Orcia - wrapped in recycled paper and placed in natural wooden boxes.
Only Tuscan food, cooked by the young and talented chef Alice Diodato at Osteria della Madonna at Bagno Vignoni, paired with Orcia Doc wines.

Perfectly in harmony with the magical atmosphere of the evening was the music, entrusted to Choro De Rua (www.choroderua.com), a duo that specializes in Brazilian music: Marco Ruviaro (guitar) and Barbara Piperno (flute and vocals) charmed the guests with their sensual rhythms, the only exotic note of the evening!
