Elegant Wedding in Old Abbey in the Val d’Orcia

30 october 2018

When Elena and Eugenio, both professionals from Milan, first laid eyes on the Abbazia di Spineto while looking for a location in the Val d’Orcia to host a long weekend for their guests, it was love at first sight. This estate features over 800 hectares of hills, forest and fields surrounding an old abbey founded by Vallumbrosan Benedictine monks in 1085.

The key words for this wedding in the Val d’Orcia, as seen in the beautiful shots by photographer Carla Penoncelli, were elegance and tradition. Elena wanted a unique palette playing on white and Marsala red with a touch of light pink. The bride chose a magnificent lustrous geometric gown by Atelier Emè with an origami bow in front which she wore with a long tulle veil and crystal Jimmy Choo pumps. Eugenio opted for an elegant dark suit by Canali with vest and ascot tie.
The ceremony, accompanied by classical notes of the harp, took place in the beautiful Romanesque church of Santissima Trinità di Spineto, decorated with a simple green garland on the altar and two floral compositions on each side accenting the simplicity of this location.

After a long aperitif with products in true Tuscan tradition held in the courtyard of the old cellar at the Abbey, the guests moved to the enchanting Parco delle Absidi for dinner under string lights. Here classic round tables with treasured white tablecloths were chosen to contrast the modern clear Kartell chairs. The centerpieces of roses, dahlias and peonies were surrounded by small glass holders filled with seasonal fruit – small apples, berries and pomegranates – and white candles.
The menu as well as the invitations were embellished with a sketch of the Abbazia di Spineto designed especially for the couple by Studio Alispi. The silver charger plates were decorated with Marsala red ribbon and a little branch of wild berries. Dinner started off with a moving speech by the bride who thanked her family and closest friends.
After the cutting of the cake, a semi-naked cake with white and red flowers made by Sweetie Pie, the celebrations continued with karaoke and a DJ set.
