Cancel or postpone weddings planned for 2021? Our advice right now is to wait and not to panic!

04 november 2020

It is a difficult time.
The second wave of the pandemic is being felt in Europe and in the world provoking fear, uncertainty, and anxiety in all of us.
Future brides and grooms and destination wedding operators are facing great uncertainty, and it is impossible to understand what will happen in the coming months right now. Those couples who have already postponed their weddings from 2020 to 2021 (with great sadness but with the certainty that a year would surely be enough time for the pandemic to disappear) are particularly experiencing an even greater disappointment and distress. Our clients are asking us, “What now? Do we have to cancel or postpone weddings planned for 2021?”.
Like everyone, we do not know how the situation will evolve in the future. But precisely because of this thick fog that envelops us, our advice is just this: don’t get swept away by the panic and don’t make hasty decisions. We have to wait for the fog to clear.

In March when it all began, we didn’t know anything about this virus. Now, we know our enemy, which undoubtedly is still going strong, but we are perfecting the means to beat it. We have swabs, new treatments, and soon a vaccine. We don’t want to be too optimistic, but simply rational. Surely the virus will not be entirely gone by next summer, but we will be ready to face it in a different way than before.
Our suggestion is then to wait at least until January/February 2021 to look at the situation and get a clearer picture. In the next few months, the situation will evolve, in one way or another, and it will be possible to make a more rational decision, not one dictated by panic or fear as would be at this time. Cancelling now would mean losing the deposits that have already been paid, while postponing to 2022 might mean regretting it if the situation should improve by spring 2021, as we all hope.
It is difficult to remain calm at this point in time, but it is the only thing we can do. In any case, please contact your suppliers in good faith, and they will go over all the possible scenarios with you.
Don’t panic!
