For most people, especially those who live in the city, August is the classic month for holidays. Those who live in the Val d’Orcia know that August, however, is the best period to enjoy the magical atmosphere of this land.
The scents, the lights and the colours of the countryside are unique: if you are off work, you can spend the day at the beach - which is only about an hour away - to go for a dip and eat delicious fresh seafood, or you can jump into one of the many pools, even hot springs, with a view of the hills, or go for a walk in the cool woods of the Amiata.
But even for those who work all day, the long summer nights offer plenty. There are numerous music festivals at this time of year, and sometimes you have to choose between two or three concerts: from classical music to jazz, from rock to blues.
