An Oscar Monastery

03 december 2014

Few kilometres away from Pienza, in the middle of Val d’Orcia, there is one of my favorite venue, the perfect location for a wedding with a unique atmosphere: Monastery of Sant’Anna in Camprena, famous for the movie “The English Patient” by Anthony Minghella, winner of 9 Oscars.

A long avenue sided by cypress trees leads to the monastery, all surrounded by green fields and round hills. The monastery was founded in 1324 from the Benedectine monks. In the beautiful refectory you can admire the splendid fresco cycle of the great artist Antonio Bazzi, known as the Sodoma. The rooms are simple, but very comfortable: some used to be the ancient cells of the monks. There is also a restaurant, where you can enjoy delicious traditional Tuscan dishes, made with local and fresh ingredients.
