2022 Destination Wedding Trends

05 january 2022

The first and biggest trend for the new year, but also for those to come, is very clear: destination weddings are not exclusive to foreigners who come to Italy to get married but it is becoming more and more popular for resident Italians who decide to offer their guests an experience in their favourite place in Italy for 2-3 days. And Tuscany continues to be one of the most loved destinations with the Val d’Orcia placing at the top of all the charts.

Intimate Weddings
We’re not talking so much about micro-weddings here (the trend in 2020 when the pandemic forced drastic reductions in the number of guests) as events where the couple is surrounded by those who really mean something to them. Interminable lists of guests invited out of duty are banned. The future newlyweds can focus on their closest friends and family members. The ideal number of guests? Between 40 and 80.

Let’s Party!
After two years of restrictions, the desire to party is unstoppable. Live music, entertainment, musicians who break into a tune during the dinner, dancers, and performers. Anything goes as there’s room for imagination and the desire to have fun. What about an enchanting dance performance or fire performers? Take a look at Lumen Invoco.

Gift Experiences to Your Guests
At a destination wedding in Tuscany, there are numerous experiences that can be given to guests for them to taste the many facets of such a unique territory: not only the classic wine tastings or guided tours of a little town, but even more original experiences. Venturing through the Val d’Orcia on vintage Vespas or a vintage Spider? Or how about a day at an exclusive spa, maybe followed by a luxury picnic with champagne and candles? Or even a horse ride or an e-bike ride at sunset, with an instructor or guide? We love Slowhills and Vintage Tours.

The Importance of Family Heritage Pieces
Whether it be grandma’s engagement ring, a vintage lace veil, or mom’s strand of pearls from the 60s, brides-to-be can look to the future while acknowledging their roots. Even if the wedding gown is in the latest style, there is always “something old” like a unique piece from the past that has special sentimental value for the bride wearing it.

Colour Wins
Next year alongside the timeless pastel colours, bright colours light it up in full force, even as an antidote to all that has happened in the world as a sign of joy and optimism. Decisive and bright colours for the win, including fuchsia, orange, violet, red, bright blue or the new Very Peri, a mix of blue and violet, Pantone’s colour of the year for 2022.

An Eye on the Environment
Respecting the environment has become part of our DNA. Weddings in 2022 will preferably be held outdoors surrounded by nature after many months spent inside at home and working from home. E-vites (zero impact on the environment) or invitations on recycled paper (some of which actually contain seeds and can be replanted) are the top choices. Local suppliers and in-season flowers are also favoured in addition menus based on locally sourced ingredients, including wine – the Val d’Orcia offers the best in Italian products from Brunello di Montalcino to Nobile di Montepulciano – and waste is not allowed. An original idea? A flower bar to recycle the flowers used in the decorations and give them to the guests at the end of the day, an original gift to take home.

Celebrating with Little One(s)
Oh yes… after two years waiting to celebrate their big day, many couples went ahead with their plans and have already started their families. A beautiful outward sign that life goes on in the face of obstacles. We can’t wait to cuddle the many little special guests at weddings in 2022!
